Despite the fact that 1.9 billion people tuned in to watch Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tie the knot in May 2018, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex still managed to find ways to make their wedding feel intimate. In a rare interview for the A Royal Wedding: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex exhibit audio guide, Meghan detailed the special ways she and Harry made the big day their own.

“A great level of detail went into the planning of our wedding day,” Meghan says in the audio guide. “We knew how large the scale of the event would be, so in making choices that were really personal and meaningful, it could make the whole experience feel intimate."

One way Meghan was able to do this was through her wedding dress. Her gown, designed by Clare Wright Keller, included a long, hand stitched veil decorated with the national flowers of all the commonwealth countries. She also had a scrap of fabric from the dress she wore on her first date with Prince Harry sewn into her veil, as well.

Prince Harry also spoke about his own wedding attire and why it was meaningful to him. “I chose the frock coat as a uniform, with permission from my grandmother, because I think it’s one of the smartest Household Cavalry uniforms,” he explains. “It’s one of my favorites, and I was very fortunate to be able to wear that on the day.”
