After the success of the winter Lunch and Learn series, Handley Regional Library is once again partnering with Virginia Cooperative Extension to present an encore series of cooking workshops. These sessions will repeat the courses taught during the winter series. Each presents quick, healthy, and inexpensive tips for the cook on the go who wants healthy choices. These events are free, but do require registration in advance. Register at or by calling the Bowman Information Desk at 540/869-9000 ext. 203.  All events will be held from Noon till 1 p.m. in the Meeting Room at Bowman Library. 


April 14 – Soup’s On! – Registration Deadline: April 10th

Soup is the perfect make-ahead meal for busy people. Soups and stews can be made in large batches and frozen for days when you need a quick, healthy lunch or dinner ready in minutes. This class will feature at least three different healthy soups that take just minutes to get in the pot, plus you’ll receive tips and ideas for other soup recipes. Recipes and samples are included.


April 21 – Eat the Mediterranean Way – Registration Deadline: April 17th

Research shows that eating patterns from countries surrounding the Mediterranean promote good health and decrease risk of many chronic diseases. Mediterranean style food is not only good for you but satisfying and delicious, too. This class will focus on lifestyle changes and cooking techniques from Mediterranean countries. You will sample dishes and receive recipes, resources, and tips on weight management.


May 12 – Five Ingredient Meals – Registration Deadline: May 8th

Are you over-scheduled and don’t have time to cook? Well, then what’s not to like about healthy, yummy meals with five ingredients or less? Wholesome, good meals don’t need a lot of ingredients or time to make. This class will focus on meals using 5 or fewer ingredients, plus common pantry items such as seasonings. It’s easy to have a full week’s meals on the table with just 15-minutes of planning time and a quick trip to the grocery store. You’ll taste at least two 5-ingredient dishes and receive recipes and shopping tips to help you plan a week’s worth of homemade goodness.
